Movie Review: Star Trek Into Darkness

Are you ready to boldly go where no man has gone before, again? In May 2013, the Starfleet crew boarded the USS Enterprise for a voyage... Into Darkness.

Directing this 132 minute action/adventure/sci-fi is J.J. Abrams.

Getting beamed aboard this sequel is: Chris Pine as Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Karl Urban as Bones, Simon Pegg as Scotty, John Cho as Sulu, Bruce Greenwood as Pike, Peter Weller as Marcus and Benedict Cumberbatch as John Harrison/Kahn.

Yet again, the crew of the Starship USS Enterprise must put everything on the line. This time to defend everyone from a threat from the inside Starfleet. The crew is sent on a manhunt that could take them into even more danger. With a man bent on this much revenge, does the crew have what it takes to stop him? If
so, what price will they have pay?

This first bit is for the non-Trekkie's (yes, you know who and what Star Trek is but never really followed it). The movie was great! Really cool special effects, the story was better and more believable than the first one. Cast did an amazing job. As always, it's even better when you can get the full cast back. Prepare to be transported with the crew on an awesome voyage.

Now Trekkie's, please start your reading from the 2nd sentence of the last paragraph. My problem with the movie... Kahn. With the ability to write this title in any new direction they want, they've got an endless supply of materiel. Cumberbatch did an amazing job, no arguments with his skill as an actor. Should Kahn have been his character? No. He was brought in as a rogue and they could have just left the story that way instead of using Kahn as the twist. Every other character so far bared close similarities to their counterpart from new to old Star Trek. Kahn was a bad play-through. Again, things that may not matter to some, and irritate others (like me). I still really enjoyed the movie and waited (almost) patiently to hear that dire cry of Kahn's name, which the old school part of me was truly satisfied with.

It's rated PG 13 for language and violence.

4 stars for a really good movie that had Peter Weller in it.
