Movie Review: Galaxy Quest

If you had a chance at fame one more time
would you take it? Even if you had to travel the galaxy to do it? In December 1999, an old T.V. show cast got their chance. This time they wouldn't be leaving their names in the credits... but in the stars.

Directing this 102 minute adventure/sci fi/comedy is Dean Parisot.

The cast on board this adventure is: Tim Allen as Jason Nesmith,Siquorney Weaver as Gwen DeMarco, Alan Rickman as Alexander Dane, Tony Shalhoub as Fred Kwan, Sam Rockwell as Guy Fleegman, Daryl Mitchell as Tommy Webber, Enrico Colantoni as Mathesar, Missi Pyle as Laliari, Justin Long as Brandon and Robin Sachs as Sarris.

The Galaxy Quest characters were once brought to life on a T.V. show. We fast forward to now where the old cast is better known for their appearances at comic conventions and mall openings. With days of fame and glory long since past, the crew lives off of old one liners and catch phrases. Due to a
misunderstanding, Mathesar asks the team for help. Thinking it's a chance at a gig they say sure. Then they come face to face with Sarris, a truly evil individual that's threating to take over Mathesar's home world. Now, with not only the crews lives on the line, but an entire planet of Thermians that's counting on them. Does a bunch of has-been actors have what it takes to save the world?

I really enjoyed this one. It had a good storyline and a funny script. Also with the great looking sets and special effects that brought out the feel of a cheesy T.V. show, without being a cheesy movie. Allen, Shalhoub and Rickman did a great job bringing the comedy to the table. This may be an old flick but so worth the watch.

It's rated PG for language and violence.

I'd beam up 4 stars, if I had the technology.
