Movie Review: Escape Plan

Have you ever been really good at something, so good it came back to bite you in the ass? In October 2013, everyone knew Ray was good, but this test will show just how good he really is.

Directing this 110 minute action/mystery/thriller is Mikael Hafstrom.

Making a break for it in this flick is: Sylvester Stallone as Ray Breslin, Arnold Schwarzenegger as Emil Rottmayer, Jim Caciezel as Hobbes, Faran Tahir as Javed, Amy Ryan as Abigail, Vincent D'Onofrio as Lester Clark, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson as Hush, Vinnie Jones as Drake, Sam Neil as Dr. Kyrie and Caitriona Balfe as Jessica Miller.

Ray has a really cool job, he's an escape artist of sorts. His act can't be found in the bright lights of Vegas, and his audience isn't the kind you would expect. If you wanna see his act, you'll have to go to prison. With
the help of his security company, Ray gets a fake ID and a fake criminal history, then he gets put into a prison and finds his way out. Afterwords, he shows the weak spots to the prison officials. Being the best at what he does catches the eye of a government group that wants to test a new high security prison they have up and running. Once inside this super prison, Ray starts to notice familiar things about this place. Familiar like they've built this prison from notes taken from his book. Now, Ray is trapped inside a prison he's built and must find a way out. It's starting to look like Ray may need a little help from the inside if he ever wants to see the daylight again.

Just when you think Stallone and Schwarzenegger are names you associate to old cheesy action films, they hit you with something like this. Dropping the one liners and past movie references, they sat down and delivered a flick with a pretty cool storyline and a really good playthrough. Not to say you will get off easy, you'll still have to dodge a slice or two of cheesyness, but nothing like we're used to from previous films. This is an action flick so you get some fight scenes showing they can still kick some movie ass, but a really decent thriller as well. The scenery was really good looking with what they came up with for the prison.  Plus, after years of movie competition it's really cool to see two big action icons like Stallone and Schwarzenegger pairing up and working together (as they've been doing quite a bit lately), with no trying to outshine or upstage each other (especially because those days are long behind them). Will this flick move you to a higher state of emotional awareness? That depends on how big of a fan you are of Stallone's I guess, but I'm gonna say no. It will however entertain you for a 110 minutes and be worth the money to see it.

It's rated R for violence and language.

This one escapes with 3 stars.
