Movie Review: Black Christmas (2006)

Directing this 84 minute horror/thriller is Glen Morgan.

It’s Christmas time at the Delta Alpha Kappa sorority house. Every year, as is tradition, the sorority leaves a gift under the tree for someone who’s not a sorority sister. That special someone would be
Billy, the previous owner of the house. Billy has been wanting to go back home for Christmas. So this year, against doctor’s wishes, Billy’s going home. Even though the last time Billy spent Christmas at home it wasn’t a very merry experience. Well, it wasn’t for everyone else, but Billy had a jolly time.

This is a remake for the original 1974 Black Christmas (which was also known as Silent Night, Evil Night and Stranger in the House). On kind of a cool note, the original was directed by Bob Clark, who helped produce the remake years later. I did say kinda cool, I thought it was anyway. Now, some things were changed here and there from the original, but for the most part it plays out the same. I liked the story and the playthrough, because it had some cheesiness all in the right places. While it has a decent script and good special effects, we’re not talking about a blockbuster film here. It’s your basic slasher/serial killer flick; see psycho, see psycho kill, see body count rise… that’s Christmas themed. So, ho ho ho! After watching this film, you may not see milk and cookies the same way.
